 FAITH FORMATION.... A LIFE-LONG JOURNEY

"We are eager to witness and share the word of life about the reign of God faithfully, so that each new generation can hear this word in its own accents and discover Christ as its Savior. Every disciple of the Lord Jesus shares in this mission.

To do our part, we adult Catholics must be mature in faith and well equipped to share the Gospel, promoting it in every family circle, in every church gathering, in every place of work and in every public forum.

We must be women and men of prayer whose faith is alive and vital, grounded in a deep commitment to the person and message of Jesus. Adult Faith Formation, by which people consciously grow in the life of Christ through reflection, prayer, and something must be the central task in our enterprise."

From Our Hearts Were Burning within Us, the statement of the U.S. Catholic Bishops

STUDY CONTENT:

Genesis  A study of the book of Genesis is an invitation not only to contemplate the creation story, but to remember with the Israelites their ancestors in faith. (11 sessions)

Acts of the Apostles  The excitement of Pentecost enlivens the early believers in their struggles to establish communities of faith - struggles surprisingly like those today. You will meet two of the early Church's most significant leaders in the persons of Peter and Paul. (10 sessions)

The Great Adventure Bible Timeline is basic enough to suit those who have not studied the Bible before while at the same time offering ways to go deeper that will challenge the Bible study veteran.  Salvation history is covered from its beginning in Genesis through the coming of Christ and the establishment of the Catholic Church.  The Bible Timeline has been granted the Imprimatur by Justin Cardinal Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia.

You will read for yourselves the 14 narrative books of the Bible - the ones that tell the story - in chronological order; learn God's marvelous plan of salvation history and see how your faith story fits into "His-story"; study key Old Testament passages in light of their fulfillment in Christ; learn how Catholic Tradition views the bibical narrative and how to use the Catechism of the Catholic Church as as study reference; gain a greater appreciation for the Scripture readings you hear in Mass; lay a strong foundation for further Bible reading and study. (24 sessions)

Small Faith Sharing Groups

The Growing Faith Project: As our parish family grows it is important for us to continue to feel like we are family.  Small Faith Sharing groups help provide the friendly, family like atmosphere we are gifted with here at Our Lady of Angels.  Get to know a smaller group of people more intimately while growing in intimacy with Jesus Christ.   If you are interested in being a part of a small faith group within our larger community or you are already a part of a group and need the new resources, contact Bernice Simmons at 469-467-9669 x110.   We will be using the Growing Faith Project material from Our Sunday Visitor.

SPIRITUALITY

Women's Annual Spiritual Retreat

Saturday, February 19, 2011
featuring Catherine Upchurch, M.A.
This year the Women's Retreat is being held at St. Mark the Evangelist.

MINISTRY OF MOTHERS SHARING (MOMS)

M.O.M.S. offer mothers a deeper understanding of the spirituality of motherhood while also providing a support system.  Reflect on your own experiences, share your stories and realize more fully the sacredness of your call to motherhood.

It is designed as a small faith community of mothers of all ages and backgrounds who come together once each week for nine weeks to share their feelings and experiences with each other. The nine week process is a personal journey that allows the participants to recognize & affirm their God-given gifts, and to create a valuable connection with other Catholic mothers along the way.
Come share your story with other mothers,
and strengthen your sense of belonging in Our Lady of Angels' parish.

If you are interested in strengthening your faith and commitment as a mother, please consider joining MINISTRY OF MOTHERS SHARING.

Babysitting is available for a small fee for those who need it.

Please contact Joan Lange at 214-544-0734, for more information.
